When someone says retro winter styles for kids I immediately am taken to the scene in A Christmas Story where poor Randy is incapacitated by the layers upon layers under his snowsuit his mother insisted he had to wear to school. Thankfully, the winter wear industry has spent many years focusing on breathability, mobility, waterproofing, and other technology that mean our kids never have to go through what poor Randy Parker did. A huge name to thank for these advancements in winter wear is Klaus Obermeyer.
Klaus came to Aspen, CO in 1947 and became a ski instructor. He noticed many of his students were struggling due to their inadequate winter clothes. He wanted the sport of skiing to be fun and accessible to more people, so taking from his experience working as a mechanic on cars and planes in Germany, he got to work on creating one of the biggest brands in ski wear.
Klaus Obermeyer is credited with developing the first down parka, created in his attic and converted from his goose down comforter. Along with Friedl Pfeiffer, he also developed the first high-altitude suntan lotion. In 1950 Klaus officially started his business in his attic and developed sweaters, down coats, wind shirts, and more.
Now, Sport Obermeyer is one of the largest brands in the industry, and a pioneer of winter wear technology. This year, Obermeyer is celebrating their rich history by introducing their Heritage Collection. The Heritage Collection for Adults and Kids offers colorful, fun, and eye-catching retro styles with the best modern tech available.
