It’s almost Back to School time once again. Can you believe how fast summer is flying by? Seize the day by getting outside and spending quality time with your kids. Together, you can cross these end of summer fun activities off your bucket list and add the new ones below.
Snag Golf
Snag golf, which stands for Starting New at Golf, is the best introductory program to teach people of all ages and ability levels to learn how to golf in a fun and non-intimidating way. The system builds on fundamentals of putting, chipping, pitching and full swing to develop playing abilities in a fast and effective manner.
Although offered at select golf courses, snag golf can also be played at unconventional locations such as on the beach, at a gym, in the park or even at a ski resort. Have fun with your kids and learn something new while you’re at it, by trying out this revolutionary summer activity today!
Outdoor Photo Scavenger Hunt
This is an activity that can be done anytime, anywhere! All you need is a little imagination to create a list, enthusiastic children and a camera. The objective is to be the first to find and take photos of the most items on a list within a specific amount of time. To begin, find the perfect location for your scavenger hunt: a beach, the park, hiking trail or even your own backyard. Then create a list of the items you would like your kids to find. You can include things that are age and location specific such as a “shell” and “a bird” for younger children on the beach or “a maple leaf” and “deer tracks” for an older child on a hike.
Make sure your kids know how to use the camera and are aware of the area boundaries and then let them loose, while supervising from afar. At the end of the game, you and your child can not only review the photos together and let them show off their photo-taking skills but you will also have the memories of their epic day saved on camera.
Drive In Movie
I have fond memories of going to the drive-in movie as a kid. We would load up the car with lawn chairs, bug spray, snacks and the neighborhood kids and make our way to the double feature at the old drive-in theatre. To us, going to the drive-in represented the dogs days of summer being underway.
There are several benefits to going to the drive-in rather than the regular movies. They are less expensive – often you will pay the same price for a double or even triple feature than you would for just one regular movie ticket - and children are usually admitted at a reduced rate. You can also save money by bringing in your own food and drinks. Drive-in movies are more social than the regular theater and you can even play games. Children can move around and be somewhat noisy without disturbing other movie-goers, and younger children can nap in their carseat while the night goes on for everyone else.
Stand Up Paddleboarding
Stand up paddleboarding is growing fast in popularity for kids because it is so much fun for them, it’s easy to get started on, and they can play games and explore all at the same time they are afloat. Since it is relatively straightforward to learn, they usually get the hang of it the first day, which means they are more likely to stick with it later on.
While toddlers can ride on your board with you, children approximately age 5 and up can learn on their own smaller-sized paddle board and paddle all on their own. Check your local listing for SUP lessons or rentals in your area it will make for a fantastic family activity that you will happily cross off your end of summer bucket list.
