Egg-Cellent Easter Crafts for Kids

Easter is a fun-filled holiday that just happens to come early this year – April 5th, which is right around the corner! Are you looking for some budget-friendly art projects to keep the kids entertained when they are not searching for eggs?

Here are some crafty ideas for chickadees of all age ranges that may be egg-actly what you are looking for this Easter for some great family fun! So what are you waiting for? Hop to it!

Paper Plate Easter Bunny

Make your own fluffy Easter Bunny from items around the house! This is a great craft for younger children because the cotton balls have a fun fuzzy texture!

Materials
  • Paper Plate
  • Cotton Balls
  • White poster board or heavy construction paper
  • Pink construction paper or pink crayon/marker
  • Black and pink pipe cleaners
  • Pink pompom
  • 2 Googly Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Glue
Instructions

1.Cut out 2 ears from the white poster board that is each 5” tall and 2” wide.

2. Cut out two smaller ears from the pink construction paper.

3. Glue the smaller ears inside the larger ears, or color the inside of the larger ears pink.

4. With the paper right side up, glue the ears to the top of the plate so the pink part is facing the table.

5. Turn the paper plate over.

6. Cover the plate with glue (tip: using your finger or a paint brush works well to smooth the glue out).

7. Use the cotton balls to cover the plate.

8. Glue the googly eyes, pompom (nose) and pipe cleaners on to construct the face of the Easter Bunny.

9. Bend the pink pipe cleaner into the shape of the bunny’s mouth and glue under nose.

10. *Optional: cut a large hole in the plate and paint your little one’s face so they can be the bunny.

Jelly Bean Bracelets

jellybean-braceletsJelly bean bracelets are an egg-citing project that the older kids will absolutely love.  As a bonus, they make great gifts for kids to give to their friends for Easter.

Materials
  • Jelly Beans
  • Stretch Cord
  • Needle
Instructions

1. Cut the elastic cording to about 6″ in length. Keep it a little egg-tra long since it’s much easier to trim it to length than to re-string the Jelly Beans.

2. Tie a few knots in the bottom of the cording. Keep the knot an inch or so from the end. This will really help you to tie the bracelet off when you’re done. If you tie the knot right at the end and slide the jelly beans all the way to the knot, you will have a difficult time tying it off.

3. Thread the cording through the needle.  With younger kids, you will probably have to assist them with this, but it is great hand eye coordination practice for them.

4. Thread the jelly bean through the needle and onto the cord.

5. Measure the bracelet on your child’s wrist. Once it is long enough and you have enough jelly beans to wrap around, triple knot the bracelet and trim off the excess.

Egg Carton Chicks

These are a great idea for kids of all ages. You’ve boiled and painted your Easter eggs but what will you do with the carton? egg-carton-chickMake a whole family of chicks with it of course!

Materials
  • Cardboard Egg Carton
  • Yellow Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Googly Eyes
  • Fake Yellow Feathers
  • Orange Pipe Cleaner
  • Glue
Instructions

1. Cut the egg carton into individual units.

2. Paint them yellow and let it dry.

3. Cut orange pipe cleaner into small segments.

4. Wrap one small segment about a half inch from the end of the other, forming the foot. Repeat for the second foot.

5. Glue to the underside of the upturned egg carton section.

6. Clue on googly eyes and feather and you have your little chick.

7. Repeat steps to make a whole family of chicks with the entire egg carton.

Marshmallow Bunnies

Craft_Bunnies-1024x682For a delicious treat that is cute and sweet, make these marshmallow bunnies with your little ones this Easter.

Materials
  • 1 Bag of regular marshmallows
  • 1 Bag of mini marshmallows
  • Tooth Picks
  • Cake Decorating Markers
Instructions

1. Take a regular-sized marshmallow and place it standing up on the table and push a toothpick into the center of it so that about a half an inch is sticking out the top.

2. Take another regular-sized marshmallow and stick it onto the toothpick sideways so that you create the head and body of the bunny.

3. For the ears, cut a regular-sized marshmallow in half and then in half again to make 4 pieces that are shaped like half moons.

4. Use the scissors to cut the point off of one side so that it is flat. The exposed marshmallow is sticky and should be able to stick to the head of the bunny, but if you have trouble, cut a toothpick in half and insert half of it into the ear and then into the head of the bunny.

5. To make the feet, cut a mini marshmallow in half length wise and place the 2 pieces at the base of the body.

6. To make the tail, cut a mini marshmallow widthwise and place a half on the other side.

7. Use cake decorating markers to create a cute face and whiskers.
