Have you been working so hard lately that you have yet to plan your upcoming Memorial Day weekend getaway with your family? While your top choice vacation spots may be already booked by people with better planning skills than yourself, don’t sweat it. You can still get away, have an amazing time with your family, and return refreshed with new memories that will last a lifetime.
Be sure to check the airline sites and travel booking sites for last-minute deals. Stay flexible and try something new. No more affordable hotels in Disney? No worries. Have you been to Denver? You are reading this blog; therefore, you must have some interest in skiing and we all know that Colorado has some of the best ski mountains in the US. However, we aren’t talking about Summit or Eagle County here. The Mile High city has plenty of hotels, restaurants, and attractions for the entire family to enjoy. There are tons of fun, FREE activities that are kid-friendly in Denver this Memorial Day weekend. Some of these include a parade, a rock concert, and an arts festival. For more information including deals on hotels, visit here.
Did you know that the month of May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month? With this being said, you could be overdue for a vacation that encourages getting outdoors and being active with your kids. Have you ever been to Moab? If not, what are you waiting for?! Moab is home to the infamous Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park and offers some of the most breathtaking scenic red rock landscapes on Earth. Moab’s National Parks offer great family hikes suitable for tots and the wide selection of biking trails make it possible to include the entire family, no matter the age or ability level. If the kids are a little older, you can also enjoy fun activities together such as rock climbing, 4-wheeling, and river rafting. You’ve seen the photos on brochures and commercials. Now is the time to make one of the most sought after destinations in the southwest a reality for you and your family!
Whether you like to fish, hike, or simply relax around the campfire, Memorial Day Weekend is the perfect time to kick off a summer of great camping with your family and it may not be too late to make reservations! Camping is an excellent way to turn off the TV, get out of the house, and surely makes for an amazing bonding experience with the kids. Some campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. These usually fill up quickly before a holiday weekend so make sure to get there early. In addition, many campsites offer more than just nature. Be sure to pick the right site based on your family’s interests. Where should my family go camping, you ask? Check out this list of the best campsites in the Eastern US, Western US, Canada, and Alaska put together by real parents and adventurers that share a common interest in a love of the outdoors.
Whatever happens, be prepared to enjoy your weekend! If you are a bad planner like myself, it’s frustrating to come to terms with the fact that you’ve left Memorial Day weekend planning to the last minute. Being upset about it won’t help. Do what you can to make the most of your weekend. If you are content on staying put to avoid the crowds or getting away is just not in the budget right now, make the most of the lovely weather and have a BBQ with friends. Set up a kiddie pool in the backyard for the kids (and water-loving dogs) to enjoy. Whether it’s an adventure to a new destination, a camping extravaganza, or even just a few day trips to the zoo or aquarium in your area, enjoy yourself this Memorial Day Weekend and the time you are spending with your family.
