Kids Ski or Ride Free Deals for the 2016-2017 Ski Season

There’s not much better than the opportunity to share your love and passion for winter with kids by taking them skiing or snowboarding. And we love to see the sports continue to grow and watch new shredders be born! Sometimes it can be difficult to navigate the best option for a mountain pass for your kids. Or, maybe you’re just visiting a resort and don’t need a pass. We’ve put together a list of the most popular ski locations and the deals they offer to get kids up on the slopes.
Colorado
The below promotions are available in Colorado for the 2016-2017 ski season.
Arapahoe Basin
Arapahoe Basin offers kids, between the ages of 6-12, two free days with no blackout dates. They also offer 50% off a first timers ½ day lesson. Sign up online by 11/6/16
Vail Resorts
Epic School Kids is provided by Vail Resorts. This free pass is available to Colorado students, grades Kindergarten-5th grade. With the Epic School Kids pass, your student gets four days at 4 mountains for a total of 16 days! First timers are also offered 1 free lesson as well as 1 day rental for equipment. There are blackout dates and the pass is only offered for a limited time so make sure to check their website and stay up to date on how to obtain this pass.
Steamboat Springs
When a parent or grandparent purchases a five or more day pass package, a child under the age of 12 receives free passes for the same amount of days. This also applies to season passes. Perfect for a family ski vacation.
Multi-Location
There is a great Passport available to 5th and 6th-grade students, which allows them access to 20 Colorado resorts. The 5th-grade passport comes at no cost and includes three days at each of the 20 participating Colorado resorts! A free lesson and rental are also offered to 5th grade first timers. The 6th-grade passport costs $105 if purchased before November 30th. It includes four days at each of the 20 resorts, but no free lesson or rental. Utah
The below promotions are available in Utah for the 2016-2017 ski season.
Park City
The Epic School Kids pass is also available to students, grades Kindergarten- 5th grade in Utah. The Utah package offers five days at Park City for free, as well as a first timer lesson and rental package. Like the Colorado deal, it is only offered for a limited time, so don’t wait!
Brighton Resort
Brighton Resort allows kids, 10 and under, a free day ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Multi-Location
5th and 6th graders are offered the Passport in Utah as well. For $35, 5th graders get three days at each of Utah’s 14 resorts and 6th graders get one day at each.
Northwest Region
The below promotions are available in the Northwest region of the US for the 2016-2017 ski season.
Oregon
Mt. Bachelor offers free lift tickets to kids 12 and under with the advanced purchase of an adult ticket of three or more days.
Washington
At Mt. Baker Ski Area in Washington, your 5th grader can sign up for the 5th Grade Ride Free Program starting September 15th. This allows 5th graders unlimited skiing or boarding as long as a paying adult accompanies them.
Multi-Location
And then there is the 5th Grade Ski or Ride Free Passport for select Idaho and Washington resorts. 5th Graders are able to ski or ride up to three times at each of the participating resorts. Registration for this program doesn’t open until October.
Northeast Region
The below promotions are available in the Northeast region of the US for the 2016-2017 ski season.
New York
The ISkiNY Free Program will be offered again for the 16/17 season. This allows 3rd and 4th graders three free days at each New York resort, as well as a beginner lesson.
New Hampshire
Each Ski New Hampshire Resort donates 1 free lift ticket for your 4th or 5th grader for $35 (16/17 season price, subject to change). If your child is interested in trying something new, nordic centers participate as well . The best part is that a percentage of the sales are donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire.
Vermont
Vermont offers their 5th graders three days at each resort, as well as tickets to participating nordic centers. Check out their 5th Grade Passport Program. Prices for the 2016/2017 season have not yet been released but last season a portion of the proceeds were donated to the organization, Keep Local Farms.
Maine
5th, 6th, AND 7th graders can get tickets and discounts on activities at each of the 50 participating areas in Maine with the WinterKids Passport. Available activities include skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, tubing and more. And they don’t leave the younger ones out! They also offer the WinterKids FunPass to kindergartners- 4th graders for the opportunity to try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
Southeast Region
The below promotions are available for the Southeast region of the US for the 2016-2017 ski season.
Virgina
Wintergreen Resort in Virginia provides the snowLICENSE® program to 5th and 6th graders. For just $15 your student in Virginia, Maryland, DC, North Carolina or West Virginia has access to three days at Wintergreen. The program doesn’t start until January, but check out their site to learn how to obtain a snowLICENSE®.
Midwest Region
The below promotions are available in the Midwest region of the US for the 2016-2017 ski season.
Michigan
The “Cold is Cool” ski and ride passport is offered to Michigan 4th and 5th graders from the Michigan Snowsports Industry Association (MSIA). This program gives the students up to three free days at each of the 30 participating resorts. In addition, it also comes with a 20% off coupon for a helmet as well as some additional deals. There is a $20 processing fee but that’s nothing for up to 90 days on the slopes!
Wisconson
Cascade Mountain, in Wisconsin, allows kids 12 and under to ski free with the purchase of an adult lift ticket.
This list only represents some of the many resorts in the United States. If you don't see your mountain on here, check out their website or give them a call to see if they have any similar programs. Many of these deals are only offered for a limited time so make sure to stay up to date with the requirements necessary to obtain one. Some may also take up to 4 weeks to receive, so don’t wait until the last minute! The prices listed above are subject to change. Make sure to check with your destination as well, some offer deals when booking with certain hotels.
With all these ways to get your kids on the mountain, there’s no excuse why you shouldn’t!
