It’s that time of the year again – time to put on your red, white, and blue patriotic flair and find out where the best events and fireworks displays are in your area. Make sure to check your local listings and travel a little out of your way if necessary to make the most of the holiday and help your family experience a memorable July 4th. The Fourth of July is about remembrance of our nation’s independence- and it’s also about celebrating with friends and family by creatively expressing our love for our country and overall just having a good time. Here are some exciting activities that you can participate in on the Fourth of July that will be fun for the whole family that you don’t want to miss!
Get in that holiday spirit with a good old 4th of July parade. From bikes, boats, and bands to stars, stripes, and stilt-walkers, the parades this July 4th will be epic ones. Providing entertainment for kids and adults alike, parades on the 4th of July present us with creative and colorful floats of flag-wavers and candy-throwers that will surely bring out the holiday joy in everyone.
Many towns and communities offer free outdoor festivals this July 4th where children can enjoy activities such as pony-rides, bouncy houses and face-painting, and adults can take pleasure in live music, food vendors, and beer gardens. There are also car shows, aircrafts displays, and contests and auctions that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Admission is usually free, but some activities do require tickets.
Attend a cookout or BBQ. Nothing says the 4th of July more than fireworks and barbeques. Whether it’s a cookout at the neighbor’s house or the community pig roast at the park, you and your family will surely be well-fed this holiday weekend. If its pot luck style, make sure to bring along a healthy dish or whip up some Red, White and Blue Popsicles with the kids that won’t break your diet. After the feast, keep the kids entertained with sparklers and a slip-n-slide.
At some festivals, arts and craft activities will be offered for children but you can also find artistic and fun July 4th DIY craft projects to create with the kids at home. Your kids can decorate your home and themselves with such crafts as the Patriotic Hat, Fireworks Painting, Popsicle Stick American Flag (which you can make into either a magnet or a pin) and Red, White and Blue Hair Bows.
Last, but certainly not least is the FIREWORKS show. Make sure to arrive early at the location where the fireworks display will be launched. Be sure to bring along plenty of blankets, lawn chairs, beverages, and snacks, to make sure everyone is in good spirits and cozy. If you have little ones, ear-plugs are also a good idea just in case the noise is too loud for their little ears to handle. When the show starts, watch bright-eyed with your loved ones as brilliant lights flash across the sky creating mesmerizing effects such as rings, horsetail, spider, willow, palm, and chrysanthemum.
Whichever activities you partake in this July 4th, make sure to be safe, be festive, and most importantly, enjoy yourself and the time you spend with your family!
